Goodbye Summer

Farewell to summer races

As autumn fills the air

Evenings in the countryside

Are now becoming rare

We gathered in the fields

To run up pike and fell

We ran through woods and pastures

By river, stream and dell

The sun shone on our faces

Once muddied paths had turned to dust

Dry mouths and sweaty bodies

Factor 30 was a must

As the days are now much shorter

And the sun has turned to rain

Hats, gloves and layers

Help alleviate the pain

But our passion has not faded

There is no weather that we fear

We would turn up in a snowstorm

With the promise of post-race beer

So mourn not the loss of summer

And embrace the winter chill

Because no matter what the weather

We can still run up that hill
